Preventive Care

What is preventative care?

To maintain your teeth for life it is essential to have all plaque and tartar removed from your teeth on a regular basis. Seascape Dental recommends you do this every 6 months. For people with gum disease every 3 months. Build up of debris and bacteria on the surface of your teeth can cause plaque, which can be removed by brushing and flossing your teeth. If the plaque is not removed, it mixes with saliva and forms hard deposits called calculus or tartar. If this calculus is not removed your gums become inflamed and irritated and bleeding of the gums and bad breath can also occur. These symptoms can lead to gum disease. Calculus cannot be removed by brushing and requires a professional removal by a hygienist.

What will the hygienist do?

The procedure usually takes 1 hour. We will clean and polish your teeth, review your current brushing and flossing techniques and advise you on maintaining good oral hygiene. A continuing oral care plan program will be designed to suit your individual needs.
