What can I do if I am scared about a dental treatment?

The best way to overcome your fear is to discuss your concerns with our dentists. Past experiences may attribute to your apprehension regarding the dentist but much has changed thanks to advances in both technology and education. Our team at Seascape are skilled professionals, experienced in dealing with patients who are apprehensive about seeking treatment.

Communication is the key. You must feel comfortable expressing your fears and concerns and have a sense that you are being listened to. We offer various forms of anaesthesia and relaxation that can be used effectively to change your negative thoughts into a positive experience.

Why are X-rays (radiographs) important and how often should I have them done?

Dental X-Rays provide a critical insight into dental conditions that would otherwise be impossible to detect. An X-Ray allows our dentist to see things invisible to the naked eye or through a visual inspection. At Seascape, we use a variety of x-ray views for different purposes.

Bitewing X-Rays are used for screening the crowns of the teeth and top part of the gums for signs of diseases such as decay and gum disease. This type of x-ray is generally taken routinely, often on a two-yearly basis, but may be required more regularly.

Periapical X-Rays are often used to diagnose the cause of tooth pain. These allow the length of the tooth to be seen, from top to tip of the root. This type of X-Ray is also used during root canal treatment or prior to an extraction. This type of x-ray is taken as needed.

OPG (orthopantomograph) is a large x-ray film which shows the entire mouth including details of the teeth, gums, jaws and sinuses. This may be recommended as a screening tool during a young person’s growth, to help determine the presence and positions of adult teeth developing within the jaws, as well as the presence or absence of wisdom teeth.

How often should I have my teeth cleaned?

To maintain health teeth and gums for life, it is essential to have all plaque and tartar removed from your teeth on a regular basis. Seascape Dental recommends you do this every 6 months. For patients with gum disease we may recommend every 3 months.

For a 6 month preventive care appointment, we will schedule you with our hygienist who is specialised in the cleaning and maintenance of your teeth.

What Is Tartar?

If dental plaque is allowed to stagnate for several days, it can start to harden, gradually growing into a hard, cement-like layer around the necks and roots of the tooth. This layer traps plaque bacteria and food debris within its porous surface as it thickens. The hardened layer of plaque is called tartar or calculus. If left untreated, the tartar can cause loss (resorption) of the bone supporting the teeth which is called periodontal disease or periodontitis. If this periodontal bone loss continues untreated, it may result in increasing mobility of the teeth and ultimately loss of teeth. Treatment of tartar involves removal by your dentist with a professional scale and clean.

Why are there so many questions regarding my health and medical history?

There is much evidence to show that general and dental health can have a significant impact on each other. Our dentist like to understand as much as possible about your current state of health, medical history and what medications you are taking. This allows your dentist to take special precautions to accommodate your medical condition and create treatment plans to cater for any medical or health issue. If you are pregnant or suspect you could be, please inform your dentist at the beginning of your appointment.

Seascape Dental treats the confidentiality of its patients with the strictest of care.  All patient records are securely stored.

We always strives to provide the highest standard of customer care. If you have any further questions please contact us on 02 4332 2581.

Do we offer payment plans?

We understand that dental work can end up costly and not everyone has the money to suddenly spare when a tooth ache sneaks up on you. Unfortunately most dental work is pay on the day of treatment with the exception of on going dental like Orthodontics, Dentures and Crowns. Full payment is required before completion/issue appointments. Alternatively we now have ZIP PAY available to patients here at seascape dental if you are urgently needing dental treatment but cant afford the up front costs. See link for more information on ZIP PAY
