What is a Crown?

 

Crowns protect heavily restored teeth and prevent further fracturing. Although the outside of each tooth is made of strong and hard enamel, teeth can be chipped, broken or weakened. Crowns are made of a porcelain material which is both strong and durable.

 
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped "cap" that is placed over a tooth to cover the tooth to restore its shape and size, strength, and improve its appearance. The crowns, when cemented into place, fully encase the entire visible portion of a tooth that lies at and above the gum line. A crown is made to match the colour and shape of your natural teeth. The procedure is completed in 90 mins at the surgery with our Cad/Cam technology and Cerec machine.

 

What is a Bridge?

 

A bridge replaces one or more missing teeth. A space or a gap resulting from a missing tooth can cause difficulty in chewing and can result in movement of the adjacent teeth. Your dentist will prepare the teeth either side of the gap by removing 1mm of the teeth, all the way around and just below the gum margin. A very precise impression is taken of the teeth, which is sent to the laboratory to produce a porcelain tooth fused to a metal bridge. In the meantime, a temporary bridge is placed to hold everything in place until your permanent bridge is placed in two weeks’ time.
